Basic Instict 2: Insanity Addiction
The year was going so well for Sharon Stone. She adopted her second child. Then, she received the first Cinema for Peace Award for Social Responsibility during the Berlin Film Festival in February. With the long-awaited sequel to Basic Instinct slated for release, 2006 looked as if it would mark an official comeback for the actress.
But then came the Basic Instinct 2 promotional tour. You can only control a whirling dervish of heavily-medicated soundbites for song long.
If you haven't been aboard the Sharon Stone Press-Junket Crazytrain for this cinematic miscarriage, you've been missing out on some of the best celebrity crazy since Tom Cruise decided he was straight:
According to Page Six, "feminists aren't going to like 'Basic Instinct 2' - not so much because it depicts violent sex, but because Sharon Stone's character likes it so rough. Stone even smiles after being nearly drowned by David Morrissey in a hot tub."
In a USA Today piece, she offers this little gem: "One never imagines anyone is going to actually care or be at all excited to see you naked." It's the only reason we watched the first one and it's the only reason anyone--anyone at all--will be watching the second.
The Scoop mentions an Evening Standard interview where she offers this choice nugget: "I wanted [my character] to be very masculine, like a man in a steam room and I wanted the audience to have a moment where they realize she's naked.”
After coming to this realization, one movie-goer told Page Six, "The only thing worse than the dialogue were Sharon's implants."
At least she's aged well.
